Dear Neighbor,
Dubuque is my home. It's where I grew up, where I'm raising my children, and where I built Copper Kettle—not just as a business, but as a commitment to our community. I started with the belief that if you show up, work hard, and treat people right, good things will follow. That belief has shaped my life, and now it’s guiding my campaign for City Council.
I’m running because I believe our city should work for everyone. Every person in Dubuque deserves to feel heard, respected, and supported by our local government. That means being responsive. That means solving problems, not avoiding them. And that means building partnerships with the very people who make this city strong: you.
This isn’t about politics. It’s about our city's future. It’s about neighborhoods where families feel safe, where small businesses can grow, and where city services work as they should. It’s about making sure decisions reflect the voices and values of the entire community—not just what fits neatly into an agenda.
I know the challenges we face because I’ve faced them too—as a business owner, a parent, and a resident trying to make things work in a city I care deeply about. I’ve seen how bureaucracy can get in the way of progress, and I’m ready to change that—not with noise, but with solutions.
If I earn your vote, I will bring a fresh approach to City Hall. I’ll listen with purpose. I’ll lead with humility. And I’ll work every day to help make Dubuque a place where opportunity is real and where government earns your trust through effective community engagement.
Let’s build something better—together.
With respect and gratitude,
Chris Staver
Chris’s platform focuses on enhancing community engagement between city government and the residents it serves. His belief is straightforward: we are the City. When residents are treated like partners—not problems—real progress with local government becomes possible.
Safer streets. Better parks. Public spaces that work for families. Stronger neighborhoods that reflect the pride, care, and values of everyone who calls them home. Through community engagement, Chris will ensure that local government prioritizes livability across every part of Dubuque.
Transparency in community engagement means having authentic conversations and listening before decisions are made—not merely checking a box after those decisions are already finalized. It involves hearing different perspectives and allowing space for the full story to be understood, especially within the context of local government.
Chris understands the challenges of building something from the ground up. He is committed to fostering community engagement, fighting to reduce red tape, encouraging entrepreneurship, and strengthening Dubuque’s economic foundation through effective local government.
Chris believes every resident deserves to be treated like a customer—with respect, accountability, and follow-through. In the spirit of community engagement, if it matters to residents, it should matter to local government.
Chris will support smart growth and practical investments that strengthen Dubuque for the next generation, always prioritizing community engagement and ensuring that local government decisions center around the needs of the community.
Chris Staver is a local small business owner and community leader running for Dubuque City Council At-Large. Best known as the founder of Copper Kettle, Chris built more than a restaurant—he built a relationship with his community through engagement. He’s running not to be a politician, but to serve and solve problems. His goal is to make local government more respectful, responsive, and focused on outcomes that work for everyone.
"I'm running to help lead a city government that sees every resident as a customer, every neighborhood as vital, and every challenge as solvable."
